The PlayStation Portal has undergone a massive transformation with its latest update, officially moving Cloud Streaming out of beta and into a full release. PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can now stream over 3,000 digital titles directly from the cloud, effectively allowing the device to function without needing a PS5 console nearby. Alongside this expanded library, the update introduces a redesigned UI with dedicated tabs for easier navigation, support for 3D Audio, and the ability to make in-game purchases or join multiplayer invites while streaming. While these improvements make the Portal significantly more versatile, the reliance on high-speed Wi-Fi and the lack of native local play continue to fuel the argument that Sony’s next big move should be a dedicated handheld console to truly compete in the modern portable market.
