Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed details of the Metro Blue Line, which will feature 5 elevated stations, 4 underground stations, 4 future elevated stations, and one underground interchange station.

The line will span 30km, including 14.5km above ground and 15.5km underground, and is designed to carry over 350,000 passengers daily. Connecting the Red and Green Lines, the project marks a major milestone in Dubai’s transport development. Foundation work began in June, and 10 per cent of construction was completed within five months.

Route details

  • Route 1 (10 stations): From Creek Station on the Green Line, passing through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor, and reaching International City 1 (underground interchange), before extending to International City 2 and 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City.
  • Route 2 (4 stations): From Centrepoint Station on the Red Line, via Mirdif and Al Warqa, ending at International City 1 Interchange Station.

Design highlights
Elevated stations are inspired by a seashell form, while interiors follow themes such as Heritage, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The first station, Emaar Properties, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, will stand 74 metres tall, making it the world’s highest metro station.

Impact
The Blue Line is expected to cut traffic congestion by 20%, support growing communities, and serve around 50,000 Academic City students by 2029, while already influencing rental demand along its route.
