The Kerala government has decided to challenge the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court verdict in the 2017 actor sexual assault case by filing an appeal in the Kerala High Court. The trial court had acquitted actor Dileep and three others while sentencing six accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The prosecution argues that crucial digital and corroborative evidence linking Dileep to the crime was overlooked. The appeal will seek Dileep’s conviction, along with harsher punishment — including life imprisonment — for the six convicted. The move follows recommendations from senior prosecution officials and aims to safeguard the survivor’s interests.
