Sultan Ahmed to captain side as it takes on Bangladesh, Ireland and the Netherlands in Group A for a slot in the Super 10 stage

Sultan Ahmed, the 38-year-old, wicket-keeper and batsman, will lead Oman's 16-member squad at the ICC World Twenty20 2016 in India, it was announced on Sunday (February 13).

Oman has been slotted in Group A, and will have to compete with Bangladesh, Ireland and the Netherlands for a slot in the Super 10 stage, where one of the four teams will join Australia, India, New Zealand and Pakistan in Group 2.

Oman’s squad includes Zeeshan Siddiqui, who the team will be banking on for a boost in its Super 10 qualification chances. Siddiqui’s brilliant 51 not out off 32 in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier against Namibia had helped the side book its spot in the ICC World Twenty20 2016.
The win over Namibia had capped a fine tournament for Oman which included victories against the Netherlands and Afghanistan. Oman will be assisted in its campaign by Sunil Joshi, the former India allrounder, who has joined the team’s staff as the spin-bowling coach.

Oman’s next international assignment before the ICC World Twenty20 2016 is the Asia Cup T20 qualifier in Bangladesh.
