Skype blocked again in the UAE ?

UAE telecom companies have blocked access to Skype since the beginning of the week.

Skype, which is the most popular app allowing the users to make voice and video calls through computers, mobile phones, and tablet devices while the internet has been blocked in the UAE by the telecom providers in the country over unlicensed VoIP calls.

Skype now shares the same fate as other services such as Google’s Duo, Apple’s Facetime and WhatsApp’s Calling.

As per Etisalat, "The access to the Skype app is blocked since it is providing unlicensed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Service, which falls under the classification of prohibited contents as per the United Arab Emirates' Regulatory Framework".
